Rivers Edge held its annual Member/Member tournament on May 18th & 19th. The event had a total of forty-eight players broken down into two divisions, thirty-six participants in the  men’s division and  twelve participants in the ladies division. All in all a great turn out with almost seventy percent of our membership in support. The format for the event was a two-person best ball using eighty percent of the individuals course handicap. Prizes were awarded to teams who finished in places first through fourth and a special closest to the pin competition was held for both divisions. The Double Eagle Grille served up a wonderful spread of pork & chicken bbq with potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, baked beans, chips and everyone’s favorite, dessert!

The stage was set and the pairings were strong for a two-day competition for bragging rights! Once again mother nature proved to be the biggest challenge our players would face in their journey. As we closed in on round one the two-day forecast was not looking pretty with chances of rain near one hundred percent on both days. A very difficult decision was made by the tournament committee to press on and hold the event as scheduled. Overall the committee did a fantastic job making decisions and having plans in place should weather become a factor. Round one teed off as planned at 8:00 a.m. with parings going off on tees #1 and #10. To the surprise of all we were able to complete round one prior to rainfall and the field became very optimistic, with some teams a few shots off the lead pumped up for round two. Let the trash talking begin!

As we closed in on round two the next day mother nature was determined to put and end to any trash talking and hopes of a comeback. The forecast proved too much for the participants and the golf course to handle. Tee times were set to begin at 12:36p.m. however with the near two inches of rainfall and more to come round two was canceled and the results of day one determined our winners. The cancel message was delivered to the field and all were in support.

Round 2 canceled due to inclement weather

Players and guests began arriving at the Double Eagle Grille for cocktail hour between 5:00p.m.-5:45p.m. We held the awards ceremony from 5:45p.m.-6:05p.m. when our food and beverage staff topped the two-day event off with a wonderful meal and fellowship for all! Despite the ups and downs with mother nature in true Rivers Edge fashion the PARTY MUST GO ON and so we did! Following are the teams who finished in the top four in their divisions along with your closest to the pin winners.
