MATCH PLAY 2018

RULES FOR ALL GROUPS

The match play tournament is a single elimination event where each player plays matches until they are eliminated by a loss. Match play is a form of competition where players count the number of holes that they win compared to the number of holes that their opponent wins.  The winner of the most holes is the winner of the match. There will be no ties in a match play match.  After 18 holes, if the match is tied, the match goes to the next hole and continues until one of the players wins a hole.  The winner will record the results on the bracket in the Double Eagle Grille and will get ready to play the next match.

Group A

There are 6 players in this group. The handicap range is less than 5 strokes, so this will be played at 100 % handicap. The first and second seeds will have a first round bye. The winners of the first two matches will advance to the semi-final round where they will meet the first and second seeds.  If you are playing in match 3 or 4 you will have two matches left.  The winners of these matches will play for the championship, and the losers of these matches will play for third and fourth place.  We are paying three places in group A.

Winners of the first round matches will advance to the semi-final round. Once in the semi-finals, you will have two matches left. The winners of matches 5 and 6 will advance to the finals, and the losers will play for third and fourth place.  We will pay four places in group B.

MATCH PLAY GROUP B

Group C

There are 5 players in this group.  The handicap range in this group is 8 strokes so the matches will be played at 90 % handicap. This means that once you get the handicap from the tee you will be playing, multiply the number by .9 and then round to the nearest whole number. The first 3 seeds will have an opening round bye.  The number 1 seed will face the winner of the first match.  Players playing in matches 2 and 3 will have two matches remaining.  The winners of match 2 and 3 will play for the championship, and the losers of these matches will play for 3rd and 4th place.  We will pay three places in Group C.

PROCEDURES FOR PLAYING MATCHES

Decide which tees you will play.  If players are playing different tees, the adjustment for the different tees should be taken. This adjustment is the difference between the course ratings of the tees. Any tees or combination tees can be played. The matches will be played off of the lower handicap players handicap. That means the lower player will subtract his handicap from the higher handicap players handicap giving the number of shots the higher handicap player will receive. The handicap strokes fall on the appropriate holes and will also be received on those holes if the match is tied and starts on the first hole played again.  Players in the individual matches can decide how they are playing the ball, and how they will play the sand traps. If no decision is made the ball will be played down

Players will play to their current handicap.  The seeding occurred from the GHIN Handicaps published on April 1, 2018.  By the time you have a match the handicaps may change. Always play to the most current handicap.

Women’s Match Play Tournament

Ladies there are two entries in the A group and two entries in the B group.  Shirley Arnold and Sandy Campbell will face each other in a winner take all match for the A division title.  The B group will feature Kathy Strunk and Sandy Keck in the same situation.

Your match can be played at any time that you schedule it.  You may play both of the matches together or separately.  Report the results to the prop shop.

Any questions in regards to the Match Play should be directed to the tournament committee; Jeff Keck, Sandy Campbell, Jason Monahan and Sebastian Beecroft.
